O di una «funzione Villa»” and Graziella Pulce’s “Là dove germoglia l’immagine.” The original Italian text of Giulia Niccolai’s introduction to the book appears there as well.

July 15, 2014  ·  The final issue of Aufgabe has just been published, and it contains a special section of poetry from the seminal 1960s Moroccan journal Souffles. This feature was edited by Olivia C. Harrison and Teresa Villa Ignacio, and includes my translation of a lengthy prose poem by Mostafa Nissaboury (“There is one city that conjures the eye…”). I’m particularly pleased to see this feature in Aufgabe, which in 2006 published a feature on contemporary Moroccan poetry that I co-edited with Jalal El Hakmaoui. Both issues are available directly from Litmus Press.

December 1, 2011  ·  F.T. Martinetti’s Dunes, an early freeword poem by the founder of Italian Futurism, is now available from Mindmade Books. It encapsulates the new poetry preconized by Marinetti in the seminal manifestoes “Technical Manifesto of Futurist Literature,” “Destruction of Syntax – Imagination without strings – Words-in-Freedom,” and “Geometric Mechanical Splendour and the Numeric Sensibility.” Dunes is the only work of poetry by Marinetti currently available in English. It was translated by Guy Bennett.

This playful cross between a documentary text and a writer’s notebook weaves together newspaper clippings, radio reports, quotations from scholarly and literary works, bumper stickers, fragmented conversations, and diaristic, poetic prose in a seamless meditation on language, writing, and exile in present-day Los Angeles. Almost completely overshadowed by co-Cubo-Futurists Vladimir Mayakovsky and Velimir Khlebnikov, Kruchenykh produced a voluminous if little known body of odd and provocative work. This rather extreme example of zaum poetry is available from the Mindmade Books website.

It was translated from the Italian by Beppe Cavatorta and Polly Geller. With this publication, all of Spatola’s work – including The Position of Things: Collected Poems 1961–1992, his essay Toward Total Poetry, and Zeroglyphics, a collection of visual poems – is now available in English.

December 1, 2010  ·  My translation of Ernst Jandl’s das grosse ethe big e – is now out from Mindmade Books. Excerpts from this translation were included in Reft and Light (Burning Deck, 2000) and in Twentieth-Century German Poetry: An Anthology (Farar, Straus and Giroux, 2008). This is the first time that the complete translation appears in print in all of its monovocalic glory. It’s available from Mindmade Books.

This two-volume catalog features all of the works presented at the first Evento biennial (October 2009), including the text of my “Petite anatomie de l'atrocité,” an audio-textual reaction to J.G. Ballard’s The Atrocity Exhibition. This piece was commissioned by Bruce Bégout, who curated a multi-event homage to Ballard under the title “La nouvelle Babylone, la ville selon J.G. Ballard.”
